aCGH (CGH microarrays) • molecular karyotype
The Comparative Genomic Hybridization in microarray format technique, known by the acronym: aCGH, which GENETADI BIOTECH will implement for diagnostic services, is a new technique of molecular cytogenetics that will revolutionize the genetic diagnosis in the coming years.
The human genetic diagnosis requires a clinical suspicion or the existence of a family history of a specific pathology. Until now there was no techniques to quickly identify chromosomal alterations in the entire human genome.
Unlike other diagnostic devices such as chips for DNA genotyping, or SNP polymorphisms, which identify sequence changes at the level of DNA base; the aCGH technique identifies deletions and amplifications of complete genomic regions. These quantitative differences in the human genome are the cause of many diseases of genetic origin
The main advantages of this method are:
• Results in 1-2 days.
• Not necessary maintain a cell culture.
• It is the gene technology of greater diagnostic accuracy.
• Ability to identify new diseases not detectable by any other genetic engineering today: eg. mental retardation, etc.
• Automatizable procedure.
